These websites have specific data or information available, predominately free of charge, that are useful for procurement issues. While the purpose of each is largely self-explanatory there’s a short explanation on why I use each one.

Companies House

Information on companies registered in England and Wales, includes company accounts, shareholders, officers and control - the starting point for company due diligence, in particular financial health, although to take full advantage you should have a good understanding of company accounts and accounting for companies of all sizes (by turnover, balance sheet and no. of employees).

Charity Commission

Publicly available information on charities registered in England and Wales, such as accounts, objects and trustees - the starting point for charity due diligence, in particular financial capability, and to understand you should be clear on the differences between companies and charities.

Office of National Statistics (ONS)

A diverse range of indices, such as the Consumer and Retail Price Indices (CPI & RPI), and data on demographics, economics, employment etc. - when I breakdown a price into its prime elements I select and apply directly relevant indices for the price change mechanism, such as the public sector labour index.

Garson O’Toole diligently seeks the truth about quotations. Who really said what? He, although Garson is a pseudonym, often cannot answer each query with complete finality, but does improve approximate solutions iteratively over time - this is a great starting point to determine if quotations you want to use, or those others use, are attributed accurately.
